How ‘Should’ Messages Set the Stage for Anxiety.
A few months ago, I did a blog entry talked about how shoulds are tyrannical and distressful.
There really just isn’t any way to over emphasize how our families, our culture, our society, our humanity causes us to fall all too easily into a performance-based-acceptance way of thinking, of which the “Shoulds” are a huge part.
Read the post, check out The Mom Voice, and see if you can eliminate even one ‘should’ from your mental habits this week. Even if all you do is become mindful of how often you “should” on yourself, it will be a step toward lessening anxiety and regaining peace of mind.
